Mint Turbines Inspires the Next Generation, SHS Stroud Aviation Program and ECU Career Exploration Tour

We’ve recently had the pleasure of hosting several community tours to educate students and give a behind-the-scenes look at our facilities. We opened our doors to Stroud High School and East Central University students who were eager to learn about the inner workings of aircraft engine maintenance and repair.

During our tours, we walked students through our day-to-day operations, from the precision of engine inspections to the collaborative problem-solving behind every maintenance task. We aimed to create an environment where curiosity is welcomed, and every question is an opportunity to learn. It was amazing to see students light up as they discovered how theory meets practice in real-world applications.

What is your name and official title at Mint Turbines?
My name is Mike Horwath, and I am the Director of Quality and Facilities at Mint Turbines.

How did you start working in aviation?
I joined the United States Army at the age of 17 and proudly served for 26 years. Throughout my military career, I specialized as a Helicopter Repairer and Aircraft Turbine Engine Repairer while also taking on a wide range of additional roles as needed to support mission success.

What is your favorite part about working at Mint Turbines specifically?
The best part about working at Mint Turbines is the people and the satisfaction of knowing that we are the best at what we do.

Mint Turbines Hosts East Central University Students for Career Exploration

In January, we had the privilege of hosting a group of 32 students from East Central University’s Stonecipher School of Business for a career exploration tour. Ranging from freshmen to seniors, these students had the opportunity to explore career paths in Oklahoma’s Aerospace and Defense Industry.

The tour was led by Chris Van Denhende, an ECU alum and Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) Regent, who shared insights into the exciting opportunities available in aerospace and within our operations. The visit provided valuable exposure to one of Oklahoma’s thriving industries.

This marks the second time Mint Turbines has been selected as a model aviation company for ECU students, and we are honored to play a role in inspiring the next generation of professionals.

Employee Spotlight: Eric

What is your name, where are you from and what is your position at Mint Turbines?
My name is Eric, and I’ve been working at Mint Turbines for almost 13 years. I’m currently a T53 mechanic, though I’m on track to move into a quality technician role soon.

How did you start out in the aerospace industry, and what is your educational background?
Before joining Mint Turbines, I worked here briefly, then enlisted in the Air Force as a military police officer. After serving, I returned to Mint Turbines and transitioned into my current role as a mechanic. Most of my training has been hands-on learning here at the shop.

What does your typical workday look like at Mint Turbines?
First, I focus on making sure everything is laid out meticulously and ready to build. I like to keep things organized and ensure quality from the very start of the process. My day-to-day is pretty routine at this point, but I genuinely enjoy the work.

What is your favorite thing about working at Mint Turbines?
I love the challenge of the work and the team atmosphere. The people here are great, and I enjoy the four-day work weeks (four 10-hour shifts). That kind of schedule is hard to beat!
